Is Fiji Water Good for You? What Its 2026 Report Shows

Is Fiji water good for you? Yes, in our view it is a clean, safe bottled water: Fiji’s own 2026 water quality report says no contaminants were detected above FDA limits, and its typical analysis shows a pH of 7.91 and a moderate mineral content of 210 mg/L dissolved solids. What it is not is a health upgrade. The minerals in a bottle are small next to daily needs, it comes in plastic, and in 2024 about 1.9 million bottles, sold online and in Washington state, were recalled after the company’s own tests found manganese and bacteria.

Below we go through what is in the bottle using Fiji’s latest report, the recall record from FDA, PFAS testing, and the real downsides, so you can decide if the price is worth it.

Is Fiji water good for you, or just good marketing?

Both, in our view. The water itself is sound. Fiji’s 2026 bottled water quality report says it is tested for “many hundreds of organic and inorganic chemicals” regulated by FDA, that “no contaminants were detected above the FDA’s limits,” and that there “have been no violations of the FDA Standard of Quality.”

The report also explains how it is bottled. The water comes from an artesian aquifer on Viti Levu, and “the water is filtered to remove any particulate matter, micron-filtered to remove microbiological particles and ultraviolet light is applied to ensure disinfection.”

The marketing part is the idea that it is healthier than other clean water. Nothing in the report shows a health benefit beyond hydration. A glass of safe tap water hydrates you the same way.

What is in Fiji water?

Here is Fiji’s typical mineral analysis from its March 2026 report (February 2026 samples), with our math for one 500 mL bottle:

Mineral Per liter Per 500 mL bottle Share of daily value (our math)
Silica 86 mg 43 mg No daily value set
Bicarbonate 126.4 mg 63 mg No daily value set
Calcium 18 mg 9 mg About 0.7% of 1,300 mg
Magnesium 14 mg 7 mg About 1.7% of 420 mg
Sodium 17 mg 8.5 mg About 0.4% of 2,300 mg
Fluoride 0.2 mg 0.1 mg See below
Total dissolved solids 210 mg 105 mg

Daily values are from FDA’s nutrition label table. Silica is what Fiji credits for its “soft, smooth taste”; it is a natural part of water that passes through volcanic rock, not an added ingredient.

Fluoride is worth a note for parents. Fiji has 0.2 mg/L, while CDC recommends 0.7 mg/L in community water to prevent tooth decay. If your family drinks only bottled water, ask your dentist about fluoride. Our guide on whether water filters remove fluoride covers the tap side.

Does Fiji water have electrolytes?

Yes, a little. Calcium, magnesium, sodium and bicarbonate are all electrolytes, and Fiji’s come from the rock rather than being added. But the amounts are small: about 9 mg of calcium, 7 mg of magnesium and 8.5 mg of sodium per bottle. That is fine for everyday drinking, not a replacement for an electrolyte drink after a long, sweaty workout. Our guide to electrolyte water brands compares waters that add more.

What is the pH of Fiji water?

Slightly alkaline. Fiji’s February 2026 sample measured pH 7.91; its retail labels list 7.7. Neutral is 7, so this is a mild difference, and there is little evidence that small pH differences in drinking water change health. Our guide to whether alkaline water is good for you goes into that research.

Is Fiji water safe to drink?

Yes, with one recent blemish. FDA’s enforcement record (recall F-1264-2024) shows that on March 4, 2024, the company recalled 78,533 cases of 500 mL 24-packs, which is about 1.88 million bottles, because “firm testing revealed Manganese in addition to three bacterial genera.” They were sold in Washington state and nationwide online. FDA classed it Class III, its lowest-risk category, and the recall is now listed as terminated. Our bottled water recall tracker lists other recent recalls.

On PFAS, the “forever chemicals,” FDA tested 197 bottled water samples and reported in April 2025 that ten had detectable PFAS, “none of which had levels that would have exceeded” EPA’s limits for tap water. Our page on whether Fiji water has PFAS covers the Fiji-specific results.

What are the cons of Fiji water?

  • Plastic. It comes in plastic bottles, and studies of bottled water have found tiny plastic particles; a 2024 Columbia University study found about 240,000 plastic fragments per liter on average in the bottled water it tested. Our guide to microplastics in bottled water brands has the details.
  • Distance. Fiji says its source is 1,600 miles from the nearest continent, so every bottle travels a long way to reach you.
  • Price. A 24-pack was about $22 on Amazon when we checked in November 2026, close to a dollar a bottle, against pennies for tap water.
  • The 2024 recall. Small in risk, but a reminder that source water still needs testing.
  • Low fluoride for anyone relying on it for children’s teeth.

Is Fiji water the healthiest water to drink?

We would not call it that. It is one of the cleaner, better-documented bottled waters, with a recent public report, but “healthiest” implies a benefit nobody has shown. For most people, safe tap water, filtered if needed, is just as healthy and far cheaper. If you prefer bottled, our ranking of the safest bottled water brands compares Fiji with the rest, and our Fiji vs smartwater vs Evian comparison puts it next to its closest rivals.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fiji water good for you?

It is a safe, clean bottled water: Fiji’s 2026 report shows no contaminants above FDA limits, pH 7.91 and modest minerals. It has no proven health advantage over safe tap water.

What are the cons of Fiji water?

Plastic bottles, a long shipping distance, a price near a dollar a bottle, low fluoride, and a 2024 recall of about 1.88 million bottles after the company found manganese and bacteria.

Does Fiji water have electrolytes?

Small amounts. A 500 mL bottle has about 9 mg of calcium, 7 mg of magnesium and 8.5 mg of sodium, based on Fiji’s 2026 mineral analysis.

What is the pH of Fiji water?

Fiji’s February 2026 sample measured pH 7.91, and its labels list 7.7. Both are slightly alkaline.

Was Fiji water recalled?

Yes. In March 2024 the company recalled 78,533 cases of 500 mL 24-packs sold online and in Washington state after its testing found manganese and three types of bacteria. FDA classed it Class III, the lowest-risk level.

Is Fiji water good for your kidneys?

For healthy people, water of any safe kind supports the kidneys by keeping you hydrated. Fiji is low in sodium at 17 mg per liter. If you have kidney disease or a fluid or mineral limit, follow your doctor’s advice on what and how much to drink.
