Is 6.41 ppt Over the Legal Limit? Not Exactly

The distinction that matters: the EPA’s 4 ppt maximum contaminant level applies to PFOA and PFOS individually, each measured separately. Consumer Reports reported a total summed figure across multiple compounds. A product at 6.41 ppt total could easily have every individual compound well under 4 ppt. It could also have one compound above it. The total is a useful screening number, not a compliance measurement. Anyone stating Polar exceeds the EPA limit is comparing two different things.

Two further caveats belong here. The EPA’s drinking water regulations govern public water systems, not bottled beverages — bottled water falls under FDA authority, which has no equivalent enforceable PFAS standard for seltzer.
